A Waihī man who was injured after being struck by a microlight plane propellor has been placed into a High Dependency Unit.

Lincoln Davies from the Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter said crews were called to Waihī to help a man in his 70's after he was struck about 6pm yesterday.

A Waikato District Health Board spokeswoman said the man was in a serious condition in the Waikato Hospital High Dependency Unit.

He was flown to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition following the incident last night.

Police were not notified.
