A man stuck his cellphone up the skirts of young women and took intimate video images.
Judea man Roy Harley Taylor struck 15 times in two city stores - capturing images from underneath skirts as his unsuspecting victims shopped. But vigilant security staff busted him.
Taylor, 47, unemployed, appeared in the Tauranga
District Court yesterday and pleaded guilty to four charges of making an intimate visual recording.
The police summary revealed details of some of his crimes.
On the first occasion, on January 25, Taylor entered Farmers in the city, and walked around holding his cellphone and a plastic shopping bag.
He was in the store about 10 minutes, turning on his cellphone's video function and following a young woman. He held it under her skirt, capturing footage.
The next day, at 1.52pm, Taylor again entered Tauranga Farmers and lurked around the girlswear and toy departments for about 20 minutes.
He again chose a victim and repeated the crime.
This time he kept the video running for up to three minutes.
On February 1, at 1.15pm, he returned to Farmers with his cellphone and after picking his next victim, captured images of her legs and underwear.
Just over an hour later, he entered The Warehouse on Cameron Rd and struck again.
He picked out a victim near the DVD section, videoed her top half near her breasts, then quickly held the phone underneath her skirt for about one to two seconds.
This time, however, store security spotted him and called the police.
Police found him shortly afterwards and seized his phone. They found 15 separate video images, all showing females being viewed from underneath their skirts.
Taylor told police he could not remember how many times he had used his cellphone during the month to film young females.
He also told police that he preferred to film younger females because he found them more attractive than older women.
Judge Christopher Harding bailed Taylor for sentencing on April 11.
Meanwhile, name suppression has lapsed for a Te Puke sales rep also charged with making a intimate visual recording of other people.
Michael Meyer, 42, appeared in court yesterday, accused of using his digital camera to capture images of young women on Mount Maunganui's main beach between October 1, 2009, and January 26, 2011. Meyer was further remanded without plea and is due to reappear next Monday.
