Emergency services attended a serious crash on State Highway 33 near Paengaroa, Bay of Plenty last night where four people were injured.

A 2-year-old boy from Te Puke, 26-year-old woman from Te Puke, a 23-year-old man from Te Puke and a 23-year-old man from Rotorua were injured in the crash.

All remain in Tauranga Hospital in a stable condition.

Police were alerted to the two-vehicle crash near Allport Rd at around 10pm on Sunday.

Four people were reported to be injured and initial reports suggested those involved in the crash have been seriously injured.

Due to the incident, emergency services closed the road.

Diversions were put in place and motorists were advised to avoid the area until the road reopened around 3am this morning.
