4:22pm: A 75-year-old man has been airlifted to Waikato hospital after a crash which has closed State Highway 2.

Two other people have been taken to Tauranga hospital by St John with serious injuries.

The crash took place on State Highway 2 outside the Seeka Coolstore near Wharawhara Rd.

A police officer at the scene said a man heading towards Katikati performed a u-turn and collided with a car which was also heading towards Katikati.

The man then spun out and crashed through a fence and into two cars parked in the Seeka Coolstore carpark.
