Two cars have crashed on State Highway 2 near Katikati.

A police media spokeswoman said police were notified of the incident, at the intersection of SH2 and Willoughby Rd, about 8.15am.

There were three people involved in the crash and two had moderate injuries, she said.

Both cars are off the road and not disrupting traffic.

A St John spokeswoman said one ambulance was sent to the scene and took one person with moderate injuries to Tauranga Hospital.
