The search for missing Bay youngster Jack Dixon may have been scaled back, but his family's loss remains at the forefront of many locals' minds and donations are continuing to pour in.
That includes $1000 collected on Saturday by a group of mainly Bay truckies who drove their 11 bigtruck rigs in convoy down to Mount Maunganui and parked up near Mount Main Beach and rattled their buckets for the Dixon family.
Jack Dixon, 5, was swept out to sea from Shelly Beach more than a week ago.
Fundraising organiser Kyle Quin, 39, said he and his truckie mates could not stop talking about Jack and how his family must be feeling while out driving and also on their Facebook pages.
"Most of us have family and kids of our own and we couldn't stop thinking about the poor little fella and his disappearance touched us all and we felt so much for this family we wanted to do something."
The Otumoetai father-of-three said most of the drivers who took part in the fundraiser were locals but there were also some out-of-town Mainfreight drivers.
"We are all good mates and they were keen to be involved," he said
The Givealittle page set up by a family friend had last night raised $42,584.95.
