Bay of Plenty readers clearly care a lot about recycling, as news of a decision towards kerbside recycling becomes the week's biggest story online.

1. Glass half full: Council plans stopgap glass recycling collection solution

A rates-funded, council-run kerbside glass recycling service could be introduced in Tauranga by August. Tauranga City Council voted unanimously to seek community feedback on a plan to take over the city's glass collection service. The council will step in to fill the service gap left by Waste Management's decision to stop accepting glass in kerbside recycling bins as of March 1.

2. Man stabbed in Tauranga, woman arrested

A man has been stabbed in residential Tauranga early Wednesday morning. Police officers were called to a serious assault and a breach of peace at a home in Merivale at 6.15am.

3. Parents' terror at finding needle sticking out of toddler's arm
Ziggy and Callan Archer were swimming and collecting tuatua at Papamoa Beach on Saturday afternoon with Aurora and other family members. Ziggy Archer had changed Aurora out of her togs and into a towel before the toddler had a play in Motiti Reserve. "It wasn't until we were in the car I saw the needle sticking out of her arm," she said.

4. Omokoroa residents start petition to prioritise 'dangerous' stretch of State Highway 2
Omokoroa residents have started a petition urging local roading officials to give higher priority to a "dangerous" stretch of road. A man was critically injured and two women seriously injured in a two-car crash at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Omokoroa Rd, Whakamarama, about 4.50pm on Saturday.

5. Three people in hospital after incident at the Port of Tauranga
Three people were taken to Tauranga Hospital after an incident at the Port of Tauranga. A spokeswoman for the Bay of Plenty District Health Board said the 50-year-old Te Puke man, 45-year-old Tauranga man and 45-year-old Tauranga woman were all in a stable condition on Thursday night. All three arrived at Tauranga Hospital from the Port of Tauranga earlier that day.
