From Tamla Motown Records' beginnings 60 years ago in the Hitsville USA Motown building, at 2648 West Grand Boulevard in Detroit, the record label that was founded by Berry Gordy has been on an amazing journey.
The label that was established to record and promote American Soul music and BlackAfrican American artists became one of the most successful record labels in the world and many of the artists became superstars.
Artists like The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, the Jackson 5, The Four Tops, just to name a handful.
Just recently the BBC published a list of the most popular Motown tracks of all time and coming out on top was Stevie Wonder's Superstition. That 1972 hit beat songs by the Jackson 5, Mavin Gaye and the Temptations.
The list of the top 100 Motown tracks was compiled by the Official Chart Company, based on all time downloads and streams. Overall Stevie Wonder had the most songs on the list with 20. His next most popular track was Signed, Sealed, Delivered which sits at number five.
The top 10 includes two Jackson 5 songs: I Want You Back came in at number two and ABC at seven. Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell's hit Ain't No Mountain High Enough was the number three song. The biggest surprise for me was no Supremes and Four Tops hits made the Top 10. The highest placed Four Tops hit was I Can't Help Myself at 14 and the Supremes' highest was You Can't Hurry Love at 16.
