Cabling and computer software issues have caused the traffic lights to repeatedly fail at one of Tauranga's busiest intersections.
Tauranga City Council transportation operations manager Martin Parkes said the lights had been going out on a fairly regular basis at the intersection of Cameron Rd and Elizabeth St.
He said
problem was initially dealt with as a cabling fault and they thought they had solved it. However the lights continued to fail and some technical issues were then discovered in the computer software that controlled the lights.
Mr Parkes said it was a complex task to sort that out, involving rewriting the software programme.
He said it could take a few days to resolve and in the meantime the lights could fail again.
