With the arrival of Paul Ferris to Te Puke High School, a qualified kayak slalom coach from Ireland who has joined the science department, we are once again developing a kayak slalom team.
Andrew Whitmore, also a science teacher, took a team to the National Championships on the Mohaka River
in 2009 where the students competed in the schools recreational white water kayaks.
Nikki Whitehead (2007) and Katalla Kramer (2008), who attended Te Puke High School, have however represented New Zealand in the Annual Youth Development Squad that goes to Australia each year.
We have been training locally on the Lower Kaituna and the Waiari and more recently at the slalom course at Okere Falls.
Corey Taylor competed in the BoP Championships in Kawerau recently, successfully completing the course on his first run.
