Armed police are at Te Puke High School which is in lockdown this afternoon.
A police media spokesman said police were called to Te Puke High School on Tui St at 10.17am in response to "a report that information of concern had been received".
It is understood the incident was a bomb threat.
It is not yet clear whether it is linked to a similar incident at a Hamilton high school today.
The spokesman said police were at the school working with staff and conducting an assessment.
A reporter at the scene said there were about eight police cars outside the school entrance.
He said there was a sign on the school gate saying they it was closed.
"One of the policemen have a gun," he said.
Principal Alan Liddle said the school had received a malicious email this morning.
"As a result, the school went into its normal lockdown procedure," he said.
"Police checked the school and gave the 'all clear'."
The principal thanked students and staff for their patience and co-operation for following normal school procedures.
