A broken shoulder will not stop Tauranga woman Nicky Bold from completing the Auckland Half Marathon and raising money for the Heart Foundation.

Nicky Bold may have broken her shoulder while training to run the Auckland Half Marathon but it's not stopping her from competing for a good cause.

The Tauranga woman, who runs Mitre 10 Mega with her brother, has entered the half-marathon as a Heart Racer, raising money for the Heart Foundation - a foundation which she holds close to her own heart.

Ms Bold has lost both of her parents to heart disease - her father in 2013 and her mother about 18 months ago. Since then she has been doing all she can to lead a healthy lifestyle, encourage others to do so too and raise money for the foundation.

The Bold family also run an annual golf tournament at the Fairview Katikati Golf course as a fundraiser for the charity.

Ms Bold has set herself a goal to raise $1500, which she had reached but would love to raise more for the charity which meant so much to her.

Originally entering the half-marathon as a runner, Ms Bold said when the event took place on October 29, she would be walking it after suffering her injury during a fall while training.

Her training regime had since changed, now walking to prepare for the event - something she had found mentally difficult to get used to.

She was looking forward to the event and hoped to raise as much money as she could.

Through Ms Bold's fundraising efforts, she had been able to help and educate others about heart disease, healthy living, through eating, exercise and general well being.

She said had her parents had the same information available today in their younger years they may have been around a little longer.
