Welcome Bay Rd will be closed on May 19 and Poplar Lane on May 26 for the construction of the Waiāri water mains pipeline.

The Tauranga City Council said in a media release the closures were necessary to lay parts of pipe that cross the road.

Tauranga City Council is developing a new water supply which will be completed in late 2021.

It said the new water treatment plant was designed to serve the future needs of Tauranga, to add resilience to the city's water supply and provide backup for Western Bay of Plenty District Council's Te Puke water supply.
