Otumoetai College principal Dave Randell spoke to the Bay of Plenty Times from the United States, where he was amongst the election action.
At 7pm in the States and at 4pm New Zealand time he said the feeling over there was that Donald Trump would take out the election.
"It
appears that America wants change," he said.
"I find the message to make America great again, seems to be quite a common call."
He said it was interesting being an outsider to the US election.
