One of Tauranga's busiest highways has been reopened after a crash blocked lanes this evening.

West-bound traffic travelling on Takitimu Drive were stopped as emergency services worked to clear the scene of a two-car collision, near the merging lane before the Otumoetai turn off about 5.45pm.

A silver wagon and an orange hatchback both suffered damage to their bonnets and remained on the highway as firefighters, St John ambulance staff and police attended.

It is understood no one has been seriously hurt.
