Burnside High School (Christchurch) and Westlake Boys' High School (Auckland) have reigned victorious at the Massey University New Zealand Secondary Schools' Volleyball Champs, held in Palmerston North.
In the girls' honours competition, Burnside High School and Tauranga Girls' College A fought a tight battle. The game was put out to
four sets but Burnside succeeded in taking the girls title, 3-1(25-19, 25-27, 25-22, 26-24).
The fourth set was extremely close. Originally leading 17-13, Burnside managed to fall behind at 19-21. The game tied at 24-24, before Burnside eventually won 26-24.
In the boys' honours competition, Westlake won 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-23).
In the first set, Westlake Boys' came away with a clear win, 25-20. In the second set, the game was tied at 16-16. Westlake ended winning the set 25-21. The third set was less straight forward.
The game was tied at 9-9 and again at 12-12. With a time
out called by Westlake at 21-19, the Westlake boys came away victorious narrowly, finishing 25-23.
