Tauranga Eastern Link closed overnight for bridge beam installation

The Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road will again close overnight as crews prepare to lift massive bridge beams into place as part of the Pāpāmoa East Interchange build.

The road will close from 8pm to 5am on Wednesday so workers can lift three bridge beams into place. Nine of these beams have been installed since mid-August.

In the next phase of construction for the interchange, work is focused on building the bridge itself, a Tauranga City Council statement said.

The council said traffic travelling both directions on the Tauranga Eastern Link Toll Road will be diverted via Te Puke Highway from 8pm Wednesday until 5am Thursday.

Further night closures are expected in the coming months.

“This will enable the safe construction of the bridge deck base and the installation of bridge barriers,” the council said in the statement.

“When progress allows, we’ll be able to remove the concrete barriers that support the current lane reduction on the motorway, which will also be done during a night closure.”
