Tauranga City Council is honoured to be one of the finalists in the 2019 New Zealand Insurance Sustainable Business Network Awards.

The council is in the running for the Communicating for Change and Partnering for Good awards.

Communications manager Aimee Driscoll said it was an honour to be a finalist in such an important category as sustainability.

"And with such a high calibre of other finalists," she said.

CEO of the Sustainable Business Network (SBN) Rachel Brown said the record numbers were a sign of growing business confidence in sustainability, according to a written statement.

"Public awareness is at an all-time high and businesses know there is real value in working on sustainability," she said.

New Zealand Insurance executive general manager Garry Taylor said they served an increasingly important purpose.

"Almost everyone knows that we can't continue with the business models of old, yet for many, the first step can be the most daunting. And that's where SBN and the Awards can help, providing role models across a range of industry sectors that have reduced their impact,' he said.
