A bar worker has been assaulted during a robbery at a Tauranga bar while punters relaxed with a drink.

A police spokesman said police were called to a Cameron Rd bar in Gate Pa about 9.30pm on Tuesday.

“A man, armed with a knife, entered the premises and assaulted a worker, before stealing a cash register and fleeing on foot.

“An ambulance was not required, however, the victim was understandably shaken by the incident.”

The spokesman said cordons were in place for a scene examination.

Police are investigating.

A Marble Bar staff member, who would not be named, told the Bay of Plenty of Times a worker was assaulted and threatened with a knife.

“Money was taken out of our cash registers and the staff member was injured but is okay.”

There was no damage to the premises.

The bar had multiple staff working during the robbery and closed once they had got all the patrons out.
