NIWA's weather statistics for last year show Tauranga to be a city of extremes.
While the city has retained its title of being the sunniest main centre it's also picked up another not-so- exciting name for itself.
Apparently the amount of rain that fell in 2011 has given Tauranga thereputation of also being the wettest city.
I suppose we'll just have to take the good with the bad.
If you're one to take an interest in the weather you'll love our piece on A5 which looks at the year that was in terms of temperatures, sunshine hours and rainfall.
Given it was the year that heavy rain closed Mauao and constant storms battered Rena, the article on NIWA's weather statistics makes for an interesting read.
Apparently the city was also a whole degree warmer on average last year - who would have thought. It seems like we've only just started to get some heat over the last couple of days.
No surprises that there is more bad weather on the way for this weekend though, just part of living in the sunniest but wettest city.
