Sustainable living options on offer at expo

The Bay of Plenty's first dedicated sustainability and healthy living event, the Down to Earth Expo, is preparing to offer people plenty of alternative options for their home and lifestyle next month.

The Down to Earth Expo in November will showcase the latest sustainable-living options to create a healthier home and lifestyle.

People will be able to learn, explore and purchase all aspects of sustainable living from more than 80 exhibitors offering everything from sustainable building and renovation options, to the latest food, beverage and health products, to alternatives for the garden and pets.

Event manager Dayna Comeskey said she was excited to bring the new event to the Bay.

"We have a great range of exhibitors who are all passionate about what they do and are keen to share with our community a more sustainable way of living that is better for the environment, their health and future generations without costing the earth," she said. "There are so many sustainable alternatives available.

"We feel it's important people in our community are made aware of their choices so they can make more informed decisions."

Along with the latest eco products, the expo will include speakers and workshops where people can listen, learn and discuss healthy-living options with the experts, including local chef Peter Blakeway, who will talk about his passion for local fresh produce and making good food choices.

"There will also be a Wholefood Cafe where people can enjoy a wide range of vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo and raw dishes," Ms Comeskey said.

"Fairtrade coffee will be available and, while parents kick back with a cup, the kids will be kept busy with free eco-craft workshops put on by the Craft Collective. There will also be interactive sustainability activities, courtesy of the Tauranga City Council."

-The expo will take place at ASB Baypark, Mount Maunganui on November 28 and 29.
