Road users are experiencing long delays on State Highway 2 between Waihī and Ōmokoroa because of breakdowns, crashes and roadworks.

A SunLive reader has reported a logging truck had broken down on SH2, past the Morton Rd roundabout.

“It is hard for cars to get around.”

A police spokesperson said emergency services also went to a two-vehicle crash on SH2, near Apata Station Rd, just after midday.

They said no one was injured and staff were working to remove the vehicles from the scene.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said there was also a large volume of traffic travelling today while work was under way to move 1800-diameter pipes across the road for the Apata Rd roundabout construction.

Work began on January 7 and will finish today.

“Stop/go traffic management has been in place with lane shifts and a reduced speed limit, but the work team has now opened two lanes to get traffic flowing better,” said an NZTA spokesperson.

“Road users should consider delaying their journeys if possible or expect delays as it will take time for the tailbacks to clear.

“There won’t be any more stop/go required for this work.

“NZTA thanks road users for their patience.”
