The final Athletics Tauranga Club Night of the summer track season was held on March 25, with low numbers but some spirited running from some of the old stalwarts and young hopeful members.

No field events were held, as the grass in the centre of the track was being under-sown ready for the coming rugby season. Veteran Sally Gibbs, recently returned to top form after injury, won both the 800m and 1500m comfortably from ultra-marathon specialist Russell Lake, still in recovery mode after the 69km off-road Rotorua to Kawarau and only a few weeks away from defending his NZ 100km championship title.

Veteran Bruce Solomon scorched around the track to easily win the 200m in the good time of 25.9 sec, from 11-year-old Andrew Creighton 31.8 sec and 10-year-old Millie Tisch 34.2 sec. Joshua Tisch M12, who won two age group titles at the Waikato-BOP championships last weekend, ran easily in the early stages of the 1500m before finishing strongly to finish third, and is a great prospect for the future.

Sid Pavett, 80, was the only athlete to contest all three races and is coming into good form, with his sights set on the upcoming Rotorua marathon.

Results: 200m: W10: M Tisch 34.2 1, A Farrar 39.1 2, S Ingham 40.3 3; M10: H Tisch 44.5 1; M12: A Creighton 31,8 1; MM: B Solomon 25.9 1, S Pavett 53.2 2; 800m: W10: M Tisch 3-38.6 1, A Farrar 3-40.6 2, S Ingham 3-46.6 3; MW: S Gibbs 2-27.5 1; M12: A Creighton 2-43.3 1; MM: R Lake 2-37.0 1, S Pavett 4-15.5 2; 1500m: MW: S Gibbs 4-54.4 1; M10: H Tisch 6-50.6 1; M12: J Tisch 6-15.5 1; MM: R Lake 5-31.9 1, S Pavett 7-58.7 2.
