Tauranga Mayoral contender Murray Guy and fellow councillor Rick Curach have banded together with four other council candidates to run on a ticket called Pick 6 for Community First.
It is the first ticket to emerge from nominations received for the Tauranga City Council elections in October. People wanting to run
for the council only have until midday tomorrow to get their nomination forms in.
Pick 6 for Community First capitalises on Cr Curach's catchy election slogan `Pick Rick'.
The other members are Ohauiti civil engineer Hayden Evans, retired Greerton resident and previous council candidate Bill Humphrey, Mount Maunganui mum Kath Lawrence who led the campaign to lower admission prices at Baywave aquatic centre, and Otumoetai tour manager and ocean liner cruising author Catherine Stewart.
Cr Guy said that until they got a majority on the council for a mindset for change, then they were wasting time.
"You can spout on about warm fuzzies until the cows come home, but until you get a majority, you can't do anything."
Other nominations announced yesterday were Rotarian and previous council election candidate Ross Prestidge, disputes resolution practitioner Lloyd Davies, secondary school teacher Ewan McLeod, and sitting councillor Anne Pankhurst.
Kath Lawrence is the only candidate announced yesterday not seeking one of the council's seven at-large seats.
She is going for the Mount-Papamoa Ward.
