For those who have lost a loved one in 2010 or have endured a year of struggle a "blue Christmas service" may be for you.
The Omokoroa Community Church has held its "blue" service for the past few years, and while pastor Fergus Keith said it didn't draw a big turnout,
he thinks it is worthwhile.
"While they might not want to celebrate Christmas on the day, this gives them something appropriate at the time."
Mr Keith said the service was a very quiet and reflective event.
"It is to remember lost loved ones because for many attendees, this coming Christmas will be their first without them," he said.
"It has never been a big service but it plays an important role for those people in our community who don't want to be singing Joy to the World this festive season."
Mr Keith said it also allowed those who had endured a tough year to get over their challenges of 2010 before the big day.
"All are welcome to the service."
Omokoroa Community Church's Blue Christmas Service is on Tuesday, December 21, from 7pm at the church, 139 Hamurana Rd, Omokoroa.
