Series of crashes in wet

Emergency services dealt with a spate of crashes after Saturday's rain, prompting police to remind drivers to slow down in wet weather.

About 1.50pm on Saturday, a vehicle spun out of control and crashed into a concrete wall on 11th Ave near Waihi Rd in Tauranga.

Tauranga police Senior Constable Chris Hills said only one vehicle, carrying three passengers, was involved. No one was injured.

Earlier that morning, two minor crashes happened at the same time about 10.30am on State Highway 29 on the Kaimai Range.

Mr Hills also responded to both crashes, which were on the Waikato side of the range and said they were minor with no injuries.

Mr Hills said in one crash a woman bound for Waikato lost control and was involved in a minor collision with an oncoming truck.

Soon after, another vehicle travelling towards Tauranga also lost control due to the wet conditions on the highway.

Mr Hills said people were driving too fast for the conditions.

"Driving too fast doesn't mean driving to the speed limit," he said. "In wet weather conditions people need to slow down and take extra care on the greasy roads."

The first was a single vehicle crash where a car went down a bank at Arawa Ave, Maketu at 11.21am.

Four people were treated for minor injuries, none were transported to hospital.

In the second crash a car rolled on State Highway 2 south of Te Puke at 12.25pm. One person was taken to Tauranga Hospital with minor injuries.
