Brownless said he was pretty "neutral" when asked if he was a royalist but said he had always taken an interest in the royal family.
He said the perfect day in Tauranga for the Duke and Duchess would include a walk up or around Mauao, a visit to the University of Waikato Adams Centre for High Performance Centre and a meal on the Strand or downtown Mount Maunganui.
Tauranga woman and self-confessed royalist, Laurel Abraham, works between Tauranga and Rotorua and said she would make sure she was in Rotorua on October 31.
Abraham remembered shaking the Queen's hand when she was 17, when she sang in the choir for the Queen Mother, and was excited the royals would be coming to New Zealand again.
"It's great that they're coming here as they are the new face of royalty, along with Will and Kate," she said.
Abraham said it was good the royals recognised that New Zealand was a big part of the Commonwealth and the royal family were part of our heritage and future.
She said if Prince Harry and Meghan found time to come over to Tauranga they could go around to her house "for a good old Kiwi barbeque".
Tourism Bay of Plenty marketing manager Kath Low saidthe Bay had many great activities and hidden treasures for the royal couple to discover.
Taking into account the "royal highnesses' love of sport and creation of the Invictus Games," Low also suggested a visit to the Adams Centre for High Performance.
She said a stop at the Baycourt Community and Arts Centre would be fitting as the centre was opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1983.
"Or simply a walk up Mauao to take in the spectacular views and learn about the history," Low said.
She said other suggestions were what made the region unique including a visit to Whakaari [White Island].
"Where else can you experience a live active marine volcano only a 15-minute flight from the mainland," Low said.
"Our story is rich with cultural, we have wonderful storytellers who are keen to share this with the Royals, Ōtamarākau Marae has personally invited the royal couple for a pōwhiri."
Low said visitors from the United Kingdom and the United States were the second and third largest international visitor spend markets, followed by Australia.
"These markets are also showing some of the strongest year on year visitor spend growth, particularly in off-peak and shoulder season months,' She said.
