Swimming
Daniel Shanahan and Tazmin March had a memorable day at the Otumoetai swimming championships.

Daniel competed in 10 events and his results were outstanding - 1st 100m Individual Medley; 2nd 100m Freestyle; 2nd 50m Backstroke personal best (PB); 2nd 50m Freestyle 200m; 2nd in the 25m Butterfly; 3rd 400m Freestyle; 3rd 50m Breaststroke (PB). Daniel also entered the 200m Individual Medley and the 200m Breaststroke. All these events were completed in a three-hour period.

Tazmin March had a 3rd in the 100m Breaststroke and four PBs and will compete in the Greerton Rising Stars competition in April.

Jasmine Baggaley gained a 2nd in the 100m Backstroke and a 3rd in the 400m Freestyle at the Rotorua age group meet while Jessica Martin came 3rd in the 50m and 100m fly, 3rd in the 100m and 200m Free, and 3rd in the relay. At a Greerton meeting, Jasmine won the 50m Freestyele, the 200m Breaststroke and the 200m Backstroke, with Jessica Martin also excelling with second place in the 50m Free and 100m Fly.

Surf lifesaving
After an exhausting swim programme, Daniel Shanahan headed over to the Mount for the Mount Maunganui Surf Lifesaving Championships.

Facing stiff competition from some of his clubmates, he still scored important points in the Beach Flags and came 2nd in the board race and won the surf off. This meant he was lying second overall with his strongest event to come. The diamond race comprises a run-swim-run, followed by a board race, and scores double points. An excellent start followed by a strong swim put Daniel in a virtually unassailable lead but who can predict the waves?

A couple of growlers hit him as he made his way out to the marker buoys, dislodging him from his board and giving hope to fellow competitors. But he was soon back on his board and digging into the waves to record a comfortable win.

At the prize giving Daniel received award for the most improved male 11 and under and also won the Under-11 Men's Shield for the overall champion. Congratulations Daniel on an outstanding day in the pool and the surf!
