Scam warning over Government 'gifts'

Tauranga residents are being warned of a scam targeting people and offering financial gifts from the Government.

Scammers claim to represent the Government are have been Tauranga people offering them "gifts" of hundreds of thousands of dollars in thanks for being an honest and hardworking taxpayer.

Similar scams have surfaced in the past and Scamwatch has advised: Don't provide your details to anyone who has contacted you out of the blue who you don't know and trust.

If you get a cold call claiming you are entitled to a grant, refund, have won a holiday or have a virus on your computer, hang up immediately.
