Day two of the 2013 Laser World Championships in Muscat, Oman, proved a better one for Bay of Plenty sailors despite just one race being completed.

Tauranga Yacht & Powerboat Club sailor Thomas Saunders improved from 14th to 12th following an 11th place finish, leaving him on 30 points, eight adrift of leading Kiwi Andy Maloney in 10th place.

The big mover on the day was fellow Tauranga Yacht & Powerboat Club member Sam Meech, who climbed 16 places to 24th overall after finishing seventh.

Racing was postponed for three hours because of a lack of breeze, which was less than five knots when the first race was due to begin. But when the fleet finally got out on to the race course, the sea breeze kicked in and remained stable throughout, building to around 13 knots.

On top of the leaderboard after three races are Tonci Stipanovic (CRO), Robert Scheidt (BRA) and Pavlos Kontides (CYP) in a three-way tie.
