As recently as a few days ago the longest Dave Jaggs had run in one go was 42km.

The personal trainer more than doubled that on Saturday in support of boot camp client Kimberley Ward after deciding to hold a breast cancer fundraising run on her behalf at Tauranga Domain from 8am-8pm.

By 4pm he was close to eclipsing his target of 80km and setting his sights on an assault on the 100km mark, which would have brought more donations to the table from members of the Tauranga business community.

In the end he fell about 15 laps short, managing 94km before time expired.

"I've only ever done 42km before in one hit, so this is already well and truly above wherever I've been," he said with only a handful of hours to go. "It's something I've thought about doing before, but I've never got into it. I've always stuck with the multisport.

"An ultra-marathon is pretty high on the hit list I think, but ask me in a few hours and then see what I have to say then."
