Three teams from the extremities of the Western Bay will compete at the Bay of Plenty JMC Champion of Champions rugby tournament to be held in the Eastern Bay of Plenty on Saturday.

Two teams from Te Puna took out the Western Bay of Plenty JMC Under-11 and Under-13 title deciders last weekend, while the Katikati Under-12 team annexed their division. The three sides earned the right to represent the Western Bay at the Bay of Plenty Champion of Champions tournament.

In the Under-11 division, Te Puna will square off against Rotorua representatives Whakarewarewa and Eastern Bay's Te Teko at Dunderdale Park in Te Teko. Katikati Under-12s meets Whakarewarewa and Paroa from the Eastern Bay, while Te Puna Under-13s face Rotoiti and Opotiki.

Last weekend, the three teams booked their berths in the Champion of Champions tournament in contrasting fashion.

While both Te Puna sides emerged with comfortable victories, Katikati had a real arm wrestle with Greerton Marist. Without a point being registered in the first spell, the scene was set for a second half thriller which alternated between attack and defence from both sides. Finally Katikati ran in the deciding touchdown to clinch a hard fought 14-10 victory.
