"The advantage of being here with the team is the climate, the lack of traffic and the fact we have two games here against quality opposition, which is great preparation which we haven't had going into a world cup before.
"Logistically and resource-wise it is perfect - and it's home. It is a special, special place and most of the squad want to live here."
The NZ Under-20 team play two matches at Blake Park - against Blues Development on Friday and Chiefs Development next Wednesday - before the IRB Junior World Championships begin on June 2 at venues in Auckland, North Shore and Pukekohe.
"We have talked about the tournament ... creating a high performance environment where you treat each day like you are preparing for a test match but enjoy it when you have your off times," Robertson said. "The off-field culture and on-field professionalism is really crucial for these nine days."
Robertson raised a few local eyebrows at training yesterday by bringing out a tennis racquet and hitting tennis balls high in the air to replicate defending kick-offs.
He says it is an innovation he uses for forwards to track the ball better and to get set under the ball's flight.
It certainly was not the first time Robertson has stood out at Blake Park.
NZ Under-20s train at Blake Park today from 11am-12.30pm.
