      One person has been taken to hospital with critical injuries after a crash involving a truck in the Bay of Plenty.

      Police say emergency services were called to State Highway 30 at Rotoiti Forest at about 9.20am.

      The road was closed west of Manawahe Rd but NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi reported that it reopened shortly before 2.30pm.

      Hato Hone St John said one person was taken to Rotorua Hospital by road in a critical condition.

      A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the crash was between a truck and another vehicle, west of Manawahe Rd.

      Crews used rescue tools to free someone trapped, he said.

      Two ambulances, one rapid response vehicle and a helicopter were sent to the crash, St John said.
