A fundraising motorcycle ride has been organised in honour of a Tauranga youngster battling cancer.

The Bay of Plenty Times broke the story of 13-month-old Sativa Eagle's battle with cancer last week after it was revealed her cancer had spread. In six months, Sativa will need a bone marrow transplant.

The family, including Sativa's twin sister Indee and brother Bailey, 3, live at Bayfair but make regular and costly trips to Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland.

When Tauranga man Karl Downes heard about the family's struggle to make ends meet he organised the fundraising motorcycle ride in record time.

Sativa's parents Sheree Roose, 24 and Tim Eagle, 27, have never met Mr Downes, a neighbour of Mr Eagle's grandparents, but are grateful for his help.

"Within the hour he'd made up fliers, put it on Facebook, everything. He just wanted to do something for us," Miss Roose said.

The ride, due to be held on December 10, will begin at Baypark heading around the Rotorua Lakes before finishing up near The Coffee Club on Marine Parade in Mount Maunganui.

All motorcycles are welcome for a $20 donation. Meet at 9am and the ride will begin at 9.30am.

Spot prizes, including a donated motorcycle helmet, will be drawn at the end of the ride.

People can also register to ride pillion on a Harley-Davidson for a $20 donation..
