A Treasured Art Roadshow is being introduced to Tauranga and will be staged this weekend.

Members of the public are encouraged to bring along quality pieces of art, surplus to their requirements, to the Bob Owens Retirement Village on Sunday between 1-4pm.

The roadshow is a Rotary Club of Tauranga Sunrise initiative, and a lead up to the club's 2016 Treasured Art Fundraiser, will would benefit the Foundation for Youth Development's Kiwi Can programme.

Kiwi Can is a values and life skills programme designed for primary and intermediate school students.

Rotary Club of Tauranga Sunrise arts co-ordinator John Carlson said the success of the fundraiser relied on the availability of quality treasured art to sell or auction and the roadshow idea had been introduced this year as a result.

It would benefit the club's fundraising efforts, as well as the individual art donors.

"Donors can nominate the minimum amount they would like their pieces of art to be sold for. They can also specify that either fifty per cent or 100 per cent is retained by the club.

"It can be a way to convert treasured art into cash, and great for people downsizing and wondering what to do with surplus art. It also provides a vehicle for known artists to reach a new market."

The format will involve bringing along pieces for appraisal - not all pieces will necessarily be accepted. The selected artwork will be collected in the New Year for inclusion in the exhibition or auction.

This year's event, in May, was the first time the club had held the Treasured Art fundraiser as a one-day affair.

Tickets were sold to the evening auction, which followed a day of exhibition sales.

"It met with great success, so we will repeat this formula next year," Mr Carlson said.

"A great afternoon is in store - perhaps with some hidden treasures to be uncovered."
