Tauranga City Council is seeking feedback from the community on a possible coastal pathway connecting Memorial Park and the City Centre via The Strand.
The proposed pathway has been identified as a key connection in city centre strategies and walking and cycling plans, the council said in a statement.
Benefitsinclude providing a safe and flat walking and cycling connection and providing the ability to access and celebrate the water's edge.
The proposed pathway was considered in 2007 as part of the Southern Pipeline project but was not progressed further. More recently, submissions to the Long Term Plan and Annual Plan encouraged Council to revisit this project, as well as submissions that were against the proposal being considered again.
Council now wants to understand the range of views our community have on the proposed pathway and identify issues or opportunities that may need to be considered if it was to progress to the next stage of concept design. You can provide feedback at the community open days listed below or visit the Have Your Say section of the Tauranga City Council website which includes an online submission form.
Saturday, April 13 Memorial Park playground (if raining we will be at QEYC foyer, Memorial Park) 11am – 2pm
Tuesday, April 30 Red Square, Spring St 11am – 2pm
Thursday, May 2 QEYC foyer, Memorial Park 4pm – 7pm
Saturday, May 4 Tauranga Farmers Market, Arundel St 7:45am – 12pm
Feedback closes 5pm on Friday, May 10
The community feedback we receive will be provided to Council in July where a decision will be made on whether to do further investigation into the viability of the proposed pathway.
