A power pole has been knocked down onto the road by a car and is blocking traffic in Tauranga.

The incident, reported to police at 3.15pm, happened at the intersection of Landview Rd, Courtney Rd and Fraser St in Parkvale.

The PowerCo website at 3.45pm showed 495 properties were affected by a power cut as a result of the vehicle striking the pole.

It said power went off at 3.36pm and the estimated restoration time was 5.30pm.
