City owes Winston great deal

Speaking to many local people I am surprised at the number who fail to show interest in the New Zealand political scene at this important time when their future and that of the country is at stake.

They have either chosen to forget or are unaware of all that we owe to Winston Peters. During his "watch" discussions were taking place concerning upgrading Tauranga Hospital, and until his intervention it was destined to be situated in Whakatane.

We can all imagine the problems that would have arisen had this been allowed to happen. He also ensured the future of our aerodrome, so vital to the economy of this city; free medical treatment for the under-6s and the toll-free bridge must never be forgotten.

If space allowed I could mention more improvements that have made this city what it is today.

Let us consider the gap his departure has left. We need him now more than ever. If the press were to print the release of his excellent policies there would be fewer "don't knows".

Cuppa takes cake

"A cup of tea in a cafe", how very English that sounds, but this is not two young wives chatting at the table, it is the Prime Minister of New Zealand and a would-like-to-be MP of this country.

What would you think, collusion, desperation - or both? Whatever, it really does "take the cake". Sorry, one that would already have been eaten.

Frances Kibblewhite, Papamoa

Not Govt's job?

I had an email from a friend in Auckland the other day, asking why the Government (taxpayers) is picking up the bill for the Rena clean-up, when the Government does not own the seabed or foreshore nowadays.

Wendy Galloway, Omokoroa

Blame the banks

I read with disgust that 230,000 children in NZ are living in poverty, especially after having seen one of the bank's CEOs on TV proudly stating that their profits were $9 billion for the year even during a recession.

Not bad is it, especially when they are using a debit system or Monopoly money created by them and supported by our birth-certificate numbers.

It is the banks that have created the credit squeeze for world domination, not the people, and as soon as the average citizen learns the truth the better.

Prime Minister John Key wants to get rid of the loan sharks, why not start with the foreign banks?

For too long we have been hoodwinked and enslaved by the corrupt banking system and by those who administer it. It is also a disturbing fact that some of our senior Government ministers have continued to support these immoral and Ponzi schemes.

The only resolution to resolve the world economic climate is to liquidate the debt and start off again.

Compounding interest will only result in an economic collapse and just another evil move to take total control of the world's assets.

Fred Stewart, Tauranga
