Poll results: Who readers chose as future National leader

Judith Collins, not Tauranga MP Simon Bridges, is preferred as the new National Party leader by the Bay of Plenty Times' online audience.

The Papakura MP is in a five-way race for the party leadership after the retirement of current Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Bill English this month.

The unscientific poll on the Bay of Plenty Times website asked readers to choose whom they would like as the leader of the party. The party's 56-strong caucus today will vote for a leader today.

Collins received 29 per cent of the vote on the online poll of Bay of Plenty Times readers yesterday.

As of 8am today, Collins lead the charge, followed closely by Steven Joyce on 28 per cent.

Bridges, thought to be a front-runner in today's decision, received 17 per cent, the same as fellow contender Amy Adams.

MP Mark Mitchell received 9 per cent.
