Police have cordoned off an area in the west of the Pāpāmoa shopping centre.

Police investigating an alleged assault in Pāpāmoa over the weekend are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A 44-year-old man remains in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital following the incident near the Flying Mullet bar on Gravatt Rd in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was one of two people injured in an altercation with a third person. The other injured man, aged 61, was discharged from Tauranga Hospital earlier this week.

In a Facebook post today, the Western Bay of Plenty police said they still want to hear from anyone who was at or near the bar between 10pm on Saturday and 2am on Sunday who has yet to speak to police.

That included bar patrons, taxi drivers, or anyone else who might have seen or heard anything untoward.
