A man seen carrying a gun in suburban Tauranga was duck shooting in the swamp area near Bellevue, police say.

Police officers searched the Bellevue area this morning looking for a man who was seen walking along the train tracks with a gun.

A police media spokeswoman said the man was duck shooting in the swamp area in Bellevue near Princess Rd and police were called due to the proximity to nearby houses.

"No one was located and there is not believed to be any threat to the public at this stage," the spokeswoman said.
