Wayne William Fagasa, 48, of Whakatane, was killed in a collision in Kawerau on Friday.

Wayne William Fagasa, 48, of Whakatane, was killed in a collision in Kawerau on Friday.

Police have named the man who died in a collision near Kawerau on Friday morning.

He was 48-year-old Wayne William Fagasa of Whakatane.

Fagasa was the sole occupant of a truck which collided with a northbound locomotive, which was pulling empty log carriages, on a level crossing at Lambert Rd.

Bay of Plenty Police extend their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Fagasa during this difficult time.

Police would also like to thank the members of the public who have so far assisted with their inquiries.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the incident.

Any witnesses to the crash, who have not yet spoken to Police, are asked to contact Whakatane Police Station on 07 308 5255.
