Police name dead Pongakawa boy, 12

Police have named the young boy who died after suffering a chest injury at Pongakawa this week.

The 12-year-old local boy was Keegan Macpherson-Pirini.

A post mortem examination has taken place in relation to how Keegan died.

Police were called to the Pongakawa address about 4pm on Wednesday where they found the injured boy.

They helped family members give CPR until ambulance staff arrived and took over, police said.

The boy was flown to Waikato Hospital in a life-threatening condition but died in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Police said this afternoon they were continuing to make enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the boy's death and would make no further comment while those enquiries were being completed.
