Police are investigating an incident in which a man has allegedly dragged a woman from a Tauranga property and into a car.

A police communications spokeswoman said the woman had been at a Bethlehem address about 9.30pm yesterday when a man, believed to be her partner, arrived.

The spokeswoman said the man entered the property before allegedly attacking the woman.

"He has pushed her outside, thrown her on the ground dragged her toward a vehicle in the carpark and they left in that vehicle," the spokeswoman said.

A short time later the vehicle was allegedly seen driving at speed on Cambridge Rd toward Tauriko.

The spokeswoman said the vehicle was pursued for a short distance toward the Kaimai Range on State Highway 29. However, police lost sight of the vehicle around the Omanawa Rd area.

Police are aware of both parties and are making inquiries into the matter, the spokeswoman said.
