Police are still on the hunt for an offender after an alleged assault on two people at a residential property in Welcome Bay.

Police were responded to a report of an assault about 1pm yesterday that involved people known to each other, a police spokeswoman said.

She said it did not appear that anyone had suffered serious injuries.

This morning no one had been arrested and police were still trying to find the offender, she said.

Acting Senior Sergeant Cam Anderson said two people, a man and a woman, had been assaulted at a Pennington Place address and the alleged offender was known to police.

Anderson said no firearms were involved, but because there were concerns about some of the weapons reported to be involved members of the Armed Offenders Squad were called in.

He said an ambulance attended but no one was taken to hospital.

Anderson declined to reveal more details about the assault, the weapons used nor the description of the offender police are searching for.

A police cordon was in place at the entrance to Pennington Place for several hours.

Several police officers were still at the property of interest at 4.30pm, however, the cordon was lifted about 4pm.

A resident, who asked not to be named, told a Bay of Plenty Times reporter that along with AOS, uniformed police in 5 police patrol cars also responded to the incident.

"The police officers have been here for several hours ..." he said.
