Police are appealing for help after a man was shot in residential Tauranga overnight.

The 22-year-old man arrived at Tauranga Hospital about 6.30pm with a gunshot wound.

Police stated the wound appeared to have come from a .22 calibre rifle.

The man's injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said in a statement.

Other media reports that the incident occurred in Henderson Crescent at this stage appear to be incorrect, the statement said.
