A Tauranga City councillor has leaked pictures of the toxic mould that forced more than 500 staff out of their offices last year.

Steve Morris took to Twitter to share four images of the mould's impact on the building.

Mr Morris tweeted: "A first look inside TCC's leaky staff building. The latest of a few little legacies left to us by previous councils."

The black mould (Stachy-botrys) was found in the Tauranga City Council building late last year after a staff member had become ill, sparking a full-scale survey of the building. About 30 per cent of the building had tested positive for the mould. The building's first floor and parts of the ground floor were sealed off to stop the mould's spread.

Mr Morris told the Bay of Plenty Times parts inside the building were "pretty bad" and included water gushing from walls and raining from ceiling tiles - on a dry, sunny day.
