Person trapped in Whakamarama car crash

One person was trapped after a two car collision in Whakamarama.

A police northern communications spokesman said the crash happened about 1.50pm near Te Karaka Dr on State Highway 2.

One car was lying on its side and the other appeared to be rear-ended.

One person has been removed after being trapped in a vehicle and is being assessed by St John.

The road is closed but police at the scene said they hoped to reopen shortly.
