A person is trapped in a crash which has leaked oil across the road this morning.

Crashes are likely to cause traffic delays for early morning commuters.

Fire communications shift manager Jaron Philips said a person was trapped after a crash on Ngatai Rd, near Short St, at 6.50am.

It was unclear at this stage how seriously they were injured, he said.

Mr Philips said local authorities had been called as there was oil spilled across the road.

Minutes prior to this, emergency services were called to the intersection of 15th Ave and Fraser St.

A woman has been taken to Tauranga Hospital after a collision involving her car and a pole. The crash happened about 6.40am.

The car is stopped on the north side of Fraser St in one of the merging lanes for city-bound traffic. It is understood it will be towed from the scene.
